If you are experiencing persistent symptoms related to your concussion, that interfere with your recovery, consider assessment from other health professionals experienced in concussion management or care.

To find a clinician with concussion experience, you may wish to ask the following questions:

  • What kind of experience do you have in helping people/children with concussion with these specific problems?
  • What kind of assessment and treatment services do you provide to people with concussion?
  • How long/how many sessions are usually required?
  • What is the fee for your services and is it covered through MSI or private health insurance?

Four Characteristics of a Good Concussion Clinic >
(Suggests the questions to ask a clinic to make sure that you are receiving high quality care that is supported by current guidelines)

Symptom

Professionals who can help

Anxiety, depression, emotional changes, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Fatigue, daily living, attention and memory strategies

Visual disturbance

Audiological and speech language disturbance

Most of these professionals have provincial organization websites (see above links) where you can obtain a directory for your area. Some professional websites provide a searchable database where you can look for clinicians with specialization in brain injury/sports medicine. Some of these professionals practice independently, whereas others practice within multidisciplinary rehabilitation services.

Many of these rehabilitation services are not covered through MSI. You may have some coverage through various insurance policies to assist with treatment, including private health insurance, sports insurance through your sports team, and/or auto insurance if you were involved in a crash.
